The Program
The volunteer program of the Brazilian Federal Government was created to attend the FIFA Confederations Cup Brasil 2013 and the FIFA World Cup Brasil 2014.
The performance of the volunteers is integrated with the volunteer program of FIFA and works as an extensive network of mobilization, which operates in points mobility, airports, public viewing events, flow areas, around the stadiums and open media centers. In these places, they support the audience attendance: fans, unaccredited media, local and international tourists.
For the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014, the volunteers were selected to act in the twelve host cities: Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Cuiabá, Curitiba, Fortaleza, Manaus, Natal, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo.
Registration and selection
The registration were open from January 14 to March 16, 2014.
At the cities, the volunteers receive uniform and a meal-card to the period of performance, which is 4 hours daily. However, the transportation costs are only guaranteed every day of performance only at the perimeter of the host city. The volunteers are also covered by life insurance.
Volunteering
Volunteer is a person who, motivated by the values of participation and solidarity, donate its time, talent and work, and unpaid spontaneous way, causes for social and community interest. Goals may be civic, cultural, educational, scientific, recreational or social assistance.
Participation
To participate, was necessary to fulfill the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years of age (no upper age limit to participate);
- Have availability to perform for at least 07 days, consecutive or interspersed (in round 4 hours daily);
- Have commitment to volunteering.
Also, were taken into account during the selection:
- Participation in training and virtual training;
- Profile compatible with the acting area;
- Number of vacancies in each area.
Areas
Mobility: Assisting and guiding visitors and fans at strategic points for urban mobility, as bus or subway stations.
Near the stadiums: Assist and guide visitors and fans with information about the arenas (gates, parking, seating) and assistance in organizing the flow of input and output of the fans.
Flow areas: Assist and guide visitors and fans with general information on areas of great movement of people.
Airports: Assist and guide visitors and fans in the airports, providing information about the host city, games and transportation.
Public Viewing Events: Assist and guide visitors and fans in the simultaneous events during the games, like the FIFA Fan Fests.
Open Media Center (CAM): Auxiliary Brazilian and foreign press journalists not accredited by FIFA in the Open Media Centers.
